Some analysts predict that electronic commerce will grow to more than $300 billion in the next five years. With electronic commerce growing in exponentially, staying competitive through an effect e-business strategy is a tough challenge. Electronic commerce represents one of the most promising directions for generating competitive advantage at the micro level of the organization and for increasing productivity at the macro level of the economy.

Electronic Commerce: Opportunity and Challenges looks at the critical fundamental elements that could impact a user's perception of business-to-business and business-to-consumer electronic commerce. It presents a study of key components and concepts of e-commerce, evaluating the critical success factors for global e-commerce, the economics of e-commerce and the practical issues involved with e-commerce in various applications.

Author's/Editor's Biography

Syed Rahman (Ed.)
Syed Mahbubur Rahman currently is a professor at the Minnesota State University, Mankato, USA. He worked in several other institutions around the world including NDSU in the USA (1999), Monash University in Australia (1993-98), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET, 1982-92) and Ganz Electric Works in Budapest (1980-82), etc. He was the head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of BUET from 1986 to 1992. He is co-chairing and is involved as a program/organizing member in a number of international conferences. He obtained his doctoral degree from Budapest Technical University in 1980. He supervised more than 30 research projects leading to master’s and PhD degrees. His research interests include electronic commerce systems, multimedia computing and communications, image processing and retrieval, computational intelligence, pattern recognition, distributed processing and security. He has published 100+ research papers in his areas of interest.

Mahesh Raisinghani (Ed.)
Mahesh S. Raisinghani is an associate professor in the Executive MBA program at the TWU School of Management. He is a Certified E-Commerce Consultant (CEC), a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and a Project Management Professional (PMP). Dr. Raisinghani was awarded the 2008 Excellence in Research & Scholarship award and the 2007 G. Ann Uhlir Endowed Fellowship in Higher Education Administration. He was also the recipient of TWU School of Management's 2005 Best Professor Award for the Most Innovative Teaching Methods; 2002 research award; 2001 King/Haggar Award for excellence in teaching, research and service; and a 1999 UD-GSM Presidential Award. His research has been published in several academic journals such as IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Information & Management, Information Resources Management Journal, Journal of E-396 Commerce Research, International Journal of Distance Education Technologies, International Journal of Innovation and Learning, Journal of IT Review, Journal of Global IT Management, and Journal of IT Cases and Applications Research among others and international/national conferences. Dr. Raisinghani is included in the millennium edition of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who among Professionals, Who's Who among America's Teachers and Who's Who in Information Technology.
