Abstract

This article is based on a utilization of the MIS and Decision Support Systems (DSS) as significant factors influencing a BV of an airline. Authors state that a contemporary airline company needs to increase its investments in IT, specifically MIS and DSS applications. This hypothesis is based on the analysis of business needs of passenger airline pricing for such airlines as British Airlines, KLM, and LOT (Polish Airlines). Included examples illustrate that the payback period for investments in MIS/DSS – even during unfavorable economic environment - is less than a year. Even though the article is focused primarily on the effective implementation of a pricing strategy for airline passenger transportation, the results can easily be extrapolated in tourist, transit, and telecommunication sectors.
