Blanche J. Glimps
Blanche Jackson Glimps is a professor in the Department of Teaching
and Learning at Tennessee State University. She has been an educator for
many years with her first teaching position with Detroit Public Schools as a
third-grade teacher and later as a special educator. Upon completion of her
doctoral degree, at The University of Michigan, Dr. Glimps has been a faculty member or an administrator at a variety of higher education institutions.
She has taught courses at public and private institutions of higher education
including Christian colleges. She has taught undergraduate and graduate
courses such as university studies, introduction to teaching, introduction to
special education, and a range of graduate level courses in special education
or curriculum and instruction. Her first love is researching, presenting, and
publishing on issues that impact the lives of children, youth, and families
from historically underrepresented groups. She has authored, or coauthored,
many journal articles and book chapters on issues related to diversity. She is
the coauthor, with Dr. Theron Ford, of the book Gender and Diversity Issues
in Religious-based Institutions and Organizations which was published by
IGI in 2016. Dr. Glimps’ inspiration, determination, resilience, and persistence comes from growing up in a very large two parent family who lived in
a low-income community. She enjoys exploring the world, and examining
global topics, through books.
