Claudio Piciarelli

CLAUDIO PICIARELLI received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from University of Udine, Udine, Italy, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. Since 1999 he has been working with the Artificial Vision and Real-time Lab, University of Udine, under the supervision of prof. G.L. Foresti, and collaborated with dr. Monique Thonnat and Francois Bremond at INRIA and with prof. Dan Schonfeld at University of Illinois Chicago. He currently carries on his research and teaching activities at the University of Udine as Assistant Professor. Claudio Piciarelli authored or co-authored more than 30 works published in international journals and conferences and actively serves as a reviewer for several IEEE journal and conferences. He has been publication chair for the AVSS2011 conference. His main research interests include Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Pattern Recognition, and Machine Learning. He is currently mainly involved in the use of Active Vision in Surveillance Systems, in Behaviour Analysis for Automatic Detection of Anomalous Events, and in Smart Sensor Planning and Deployment for Large Sensor Networks. He worked on several national and European projects on topics such as Traffic Monitoring, Airports Surveillance and Counter-Terrorism Systems. In 2007 he co-founded Eye-Tech, a spin-off of the University of Udine devoted to the transfer of innovative technologies from the world of academic research to industry. Claudio Piciarelli is a member of the IEEE since 2007.
