Kimmy Szeto

Kimmy Szeto challenges the conventional conception of musical works through performance, composition, teaching, and scholarship. Trained as a music cataloger, he is currently Assistant Professor at Baruch College, City University of New York, where he specializes in designing the next generation digital knowledge organization infrastructure. His chamber arrangements/re-composition of symphonic works of Schumann, Wagner, Janácek and Schoenberg are described in the New York Times as "illuminating" and performing "alchemy." His recent research on linked data representation of bibliographic data hones in on the tension between the musical work and the fluidity of medium performance. He chaired of the BIBFRAME Task Force of the Music Library Association in the United States from 2014 to 2016, and his investigation on this topic continues to appear in publications and at international presentations.
