Sherif H. Kamel

Sherif H Kamel Kamel is vice president for information management (2015-present). He is the founding dean of the school of business at the American University in Cairo (2009-2014). He was associate dean for executive education (2008-2009), director of the Management Center (2002-2008) and director of the Institute of Management Development (2002-2006). Before joining AUC, he was director of the Regional IT Institute (1992-2001) and managed the training department of the Cabinet of Egypt Information and Decision Support Center (1989-1992). His research and teaching interests include management of information technology, information technology transfers to developing nations, organizational transformation, electronic business, decision support systems and entrepreneurship. His work is broadly published with over 150 articles, chapters and cases in IS and management journals and books. He is the editor of three books; E-Strategies for Technological Diffusion and Adoption: National ICT Approaches for Socioeconomic Development (2010), Electronic Business in Developing Countries: Challenges and Opportunities (2005) and Managing Globally with Information Technology (2003). He serves on the editorial and advisory board of a number of IS journals and he is the associate editor of the Journal of IT for Development and the Journal of Cases on Information Technology. Kamel won a number of organizational leadership awards for serving the IT community from International Conference on Information Resources Management, Canada (2015), Cabinet of Egypt (2011) and Information Resources Management Association, USA (1999). He won the best paper award of the International Conference on Information Resources Management (2016); and the American University in Cairo School of Business, Economics and Communication Excellence in Research Award (2005). He holds a PhD in information systems from London School of Economics and Political Science (1994), an MBA (1990), a BA in business administration (1987) and an MA in Islamic art and architecture (2013) from the American University in Cairo.
