Reviews and Testimonials

Editors Keservani, Sharma, and Kesharwani introduce this research compilation detailing recent advances in drug delivery techniques as informed by a variety of novel and quickly growing fields. The book is divided into eight sections discussing drug delivery involving: individualized therapeutic-diagnostic nanomedicine; matching of drugs to biomarkers in a pharmacogenetic approach; use of proteomics and genomics to improve understanding of disease; bioinformatics; several contributions on the medicinal role of natural products in everyday diet, botanical formulations, and optimized nutraceutical or phytopharmacetical supplements; evidence-based evaluation of topical cosmeceuticals; use of red blood cells as efficient drug carriers; and herbal drugs with the specific example context of diabetic nephropathy.

– Protoview Reviews

This volume in theAdvances in Medical Technology and Clinical Practicee (AMTCP) book series highlights the latest research regarding drug delivery technology. Pointing to an impressive array of improved and emerging technologies, the book helps to establish that delivery systems can be just as powerful as the medicines they convey.
Thirteen chapters are grouped into eight sections based on topic similarities. Some of the featured areas of research include nanomedicine, functional foods, genomics, cosmeceuticals, and herbal therapies. Each chapter begins with an abstract which provides brief background and summary information for the research to follow. Chapters generally include helpful introduction and conclusion sections and make strong use of headings and subheadings, tables, illustrations, and key terms and definitions. With backgrounds in biochemistry, pharmaceutical science, biotechnology, etc., contributors write on a variety of topics, such as individualized treatments, biomarker-directed cancer therapies, the emergence of bioinformatics to collect data, the phyto-pharmaceutical applications of functional foods, the potential delivery capabilities of red blood cells, and much more. A preface establishes the volume’s organization and goals. References are listed at the end of each chapter and compiled again at the end of the book, alongside brief contributor biographies and an index.
As the language and topics are highly specialized, the book is clearly targeted to advanced students, educators, and those in the pharmaceutical or medical profession. Readers can find further research gathered in the Novel Approaches for Drug Delivery volume in the AMTCP series.
