Description

An increasing amount of research is being done in the area where technology and humans meet. The success or failure of technologies, the question whether technology helps humans to fulfill their goals or whether it hinders them is in most cases not a technical one. Even though this problem has been recognized in many academic disciplines that deal with technology, we are still far from being able to present a set of theories that would allow us to understand the interaction of technology and humans and to put it to practical use. The International Journal of Technology and Human Interaction (IJTHI) aims to provide a platform for leading research that addresses issues of human and technology interaction. IJTHI seeks original contributions concerning any aspect of technology and human interaction dealing with the development, usage, failure, success, policies, strategies, and applications of them. The journal invites contributions from both scholars and practitioners involved in research, management, and the utilization of technology and human interaction.

Mission

The primary mission of the International Journal of Technology and Human Interaction (IJTHI) is to be instrumental in the improvement and development of the theory and practice of technology and human interaction, appealing to both practicing managers and academics. The research that the journal intends to publish should therefore be interdisciplinary and include aspects from a wide variety of disciplines. These disciplines range from more technical ones, such as computer science, engineering, or information systems, to non-technical descriptions of technology and human interaction from the point of view of sociology or philosophy. Apart from being interdisciplinary, the journal also aspires to provide a publication outlet for research questions and approaches that are novel and may find it difficult to be published in established journals following a rigid and exclusive structure. It is open to all research paradigms, be they empirical or conceptual, but requires that they be accessible and reflected. The journal also encourages the submission of high quality syntheses across research in different specialties that are interesting and comprehensible to all members of the IS community and related disciplines.

Testimonials and Reviews

"This journal fills a gap in the scholarly/scientific publications as it builds a bridge between different perspectives of the same problems, which will help to arise new ways of dealing with the challenges that will face us in this new century."
- Anabel Sarmento, Instituto Politécnico do Porto, Portugal

"As the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) becomes ubiquitous in daily life, increased usage of technology alters how people initiate and engage in social experiences. The International Journal of Technologies and Human Interaction is the only international journal focusing on the complexities of human and technology interaction, including several high-level, well reviewed papers by experts on the field. "
- Anita Greenhill, The University of Manchester, UK

"The cross-disciplinary field of technology and human interaction is a key research area to understand the profound changes that are taking place in a global information infrastructure. IJTHI has quickly established itself as a leading journal in this area, with original and well written articles."
- Bendik Bygstad, Norwegian School of Information Technology, Norway

"The study of human interaction with regard to the use of information technologies is an evolving subject area. The International Journal of Technology and Human Interaction mainly embarks from the interdisciplinary perspective of the needs and characteristics of individuals, groups, and virtual organizations and explores how these are met via the development of innovative interactive computer-based systems. However, one of the most important contributions that IJTHI brings into the evolving field is the appreciation of the value of transdisciplinarity, offering a far more integrated approach of what is required by interested academics, researchers, and practitioners."
- Nik Bessis, University of Bedfordshire, UK
