Derrick Raphael Pacheco

Derrick Raphael Pacheco , M.S., C.N.P. (he/him/el), is a Ph.D. student in the Higher Education program at Florida State University. Derrick currently serves as a Graduate Assistant in the Leadership Learning Research Center at Florida State University where he serves as an instructor of record for the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies and aids in the management of the certificate. Derrick has had experience teaching courses surrounding leadership theory, Latinx leadership, leadership and complexity, leadership experiences, and contemporary issues in leadership on college campuses. Derrick’s research interest lies in the understanding of the lived experiences of college students who hold minoritized identities and how they make meaning of their leader identity on historically white institutions. Derrick was recently awarded the NASPA Student Leadership Programs Knowledge Community Outstanding Service to the Knowledge Community Award where he also serves as the Communications Team Lead and the Executive Producer of the NASPA Leadership Podcast. In addition to this, he serves as a member of the New Professional and Graduate Students Editorial Board for the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice. Derrick received a B.S. in Marketing, B.S. in Management, and M.S. in Higher Education, all from Florida State University. He also holds a Certified NonProfit Professional (C.N.P.) credential from the National Leadership Alliance. Relevant to the topic of this chapter, Derrick has taught or served as a teaching assistant to 17 online course sections at Florida State University.
