Marilyn Y. Byrd

Marilyn Y. Byrd is an Assistant Professor of Management and Marketing, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Belton, Texas. Dr. Byrd earned a BBA and MBA from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and a PhD in Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in human resource management, organizational behavior, managerial communication, and business ethics. Dr. Byrd is a member of the Academy of Management and the Academy of Human Resource Development, where she serves as a steering committee member for the Cultural Diversity Special Interest Group. She was recently appointed to participate in the Society of Human Resource Management Diversity and Inclusion Standards Task Force that will be responsible for establishing standards for diversity professionals in the HR community. Dr. Byrd currently serves on the Editorial Board for Advances in Developing Human Resources (ADHR). She co-edited the ADHR issue, “Giving Voice: The Socio-Cultural Realities of African American Women’s Leadership Experiences,” with Dr. Christine A. Stanley, Texas A&M University. This issue was the first ADHR issue devoted exclusively to African American women’s experiences. Dr. Byrd is interested in contributing to research and literature in the area of leadership theorizing that reflects the multiple perspectives that shape the leadership experience. Her other scholarly interests include group dynamics in organizations, social systems in organizations, organizational social justice, and issues emerging from racial diversity in the workplace.
