Mehmet Penpecioğlu

Mehmet Penpecioğlu is an urban planner and critical human geographer. Graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Department of City and Regional Planning. Received Master of Regional Planning degree and Ph.D. in Urban Policy Planning and Local Governments from Middle East Technical University. Completed postdoctoral research at TU Delft OTB - Research for Built Environment, funded by International Postdoctoral Research Scholarship, Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye. Worked at four universities in Turkiye's metropolitan cities for years; Middle East Technical University, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Pamukkale University and Izmir Institute of Technology. Published in leading national and international peer-reviewed journals and coordinated several spatial planning and urban development projects in Turkey. Currently, he has been working as an Associate Professor at Izmir Institute of Technology, Department of City and Regional Planning. His current research concentrates on comparative urbanism and local governance, urban socio-spatial injustices, politics of urban regeneration and the future of urban commons.
