Description

In recent years, the replacement of non-renewable crude oil by renewable sources has been addressed, particularly in developed countries. Its main driving force has been the increasing demand and limited reserves of fossil fuels, the greenhouse gas effect, and the need of securing energy supplies.

Advanced Solid Catalysts for Renewable Energy Production provides emerging research on renewable energy production, catalysts, and environmental effects of increased productivity. While highlighting the challenges for future generations to develop in the sustainable energy age, readers will learn the importance of new approaches not only for synthesizing more active and selective (nano)catalysts, but also, for designing innovative catalytic processes that can eventually meet the growing energy efficiency demand and overcome the environmental issues. This book is an important resource for academicians, university researchers, technology developers, and graduate level students.

Author's/Editor's Biography

Sergio González-Cortés (Ed.)
Sergio Gonzalez-Cortes received his Licentiate in chemistry, Cumlaude honour, at University of Los Andes (ULA, Venezuela) in 1993. After eight years of working as assistant-associate professor at ULA and conducting research independently in methane valorisation, he moved to the UK where he received his D. Phil in Heterogeneous Catalysis from University of Oxford in 2005. Sergio was awarded a Scholarship from the University of Los Andes (ULA, Venezuela) and the National Funds of Science, Technology and Innovation (Venezuela) to complete PhD at Oxford University. He was a visiting scholar at University of California at Riverside and at University of Oklahoma (USA). He was also an invited scholar to attend Material Characterization Course in Brazil. Sergio has published more than 50 papers, several reviews, book chapters and patents that are currently in the development stage. He joined to Oxford Catalysts Company (now Velocys) in 2007 as Senior Research Scientist to lead the development of hydrotreating catalysts for ultraclean diesel fuel and then to Carbon Trust (Future Blends Ltd) in 2012 as Principal Research Scientist to conduct research in hydroprocessing of bio-oils to biofuels. He joined to the University of Oxford in 2014 as Senior Scientist to focus on the potential applications of dielectric heating in a variety of catalytic processes of interest in the petrochemical industry. Sergio research interests can be divided into three specific areas: 1) Integration of new and advanced catalysts in conventional processes or new catalytic reactions for applications in renewable energy production. 2) Development of innovative approaches to synthesize advanced solid (nano) catalysts for upgrading unconventional fossil resources. 3)Fundamental (in-situ or ex-situ) studies focused on the influence of the synthesis approach over the physical and chemical properties of the solid catalysts and their relationships with the catalytic performances.
