A. D. Chemane

José Alberto Daniel Chemane is an Applied Ethnomusicologist, drummer, percussionist and educator, born and raised in Maputo, Mozambique. On early age, he developed passion and interest in indigenous music and dance from Mozambique, later becoming an active performer and advocate. He has performed and conducted workshops extensively in Mozambique and abroad. Since 2011, he has been a part-time lecturer of African Music and Dance at University of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2015 he was a member of Local arrangement committee for the 2015 ICTM-First International African Music Symposium held at UKZN. In 2018, he conducted a workshop presentation and performed with Ikusasa lethu at PASMAE International Conference, Seychelles. In August this year, he presented a paper at the ICTM’s 47th World conference, Legon, Ghana. José holds a Master of Art Degree in Applied Ethnomusicology and is currently a PhD student in Music at University of KwaZulu-Natal.
