Abi Waqas

Abi Waqas is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Telecommunication Department of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro. With a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering jointly from Aalborg University, Denmark, and MUET. He did his Ph.D. in Information Technology from Politecnico Di Milano Italy where he has also served as a visiting faculty further expanding his academic contributions and international collaborations. His academic journey has been enriched by receiving the prestigious Erasmus Grants for his bachelor's and Ph.D. studies in Europe. He has made significant contributions to the field of IT and has gained recognition for his research work. His interests lie in Integrated Photonics, Optical Phased Array for 5G Applications, Statistical methods, and Computer and Wireless Networking. He has published his research findings in prestigious journals and conference proceedings. In fact, he was honored with the best paper award at a highly reputable IEEE Conference. He serves as a reviewer for numerous top-notch journals and conferences in the field of IT. He has secured significant national and international funding, totaling 15 million PKR, to support his research endeavors in Pakistan and abroad. He has achieved notable success with two approved funding projects. The first, Erasmus+ KA171, in collaboration with Dublin City University, has a budget of 120,000 Euros. The second, the Erasmus+ Capacity Building project, has received approximately 719,000 Euros in funding. These projects will contribute to the advancement of higher education and research activities, further showcasing his dedication to promoting academic collaboration and knowledge exchange. He has been invited as a post-Doctoral fellow at University of British Columbia, Canada. Moreover, he has been awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), one of the most prestigious fellowships in Europe for research in Photonics at Tyndall Institute.
