Alan McKinnon

Alan McKinnon is Director of the Logistics Research Centre, which he set up in 1997. He has masters degrees from the universities of Aberdeen, British Columbia and a PhD from the University of London. He has been researching and teaching in freight transport and logistics for 30 years and is a frequent contributor to academic and business conferences on logistics around the world. In 2003 he received the Sir Robert Lawrence Award, the highest distinction of the UK Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport for making a ‘major contribution to transport and logistics over a sustained period’. Alan has been an adviser to several UK government departments, UK and Scottish parliamentary committees, the European Commission, the International Transport Forum, the International Energy Agency and OECD. In 2010, he was appointed Chairman of the World Economic Forum’s Logistics and Supply Chain Industry Council. He is a visiting professor at universities in Sweden, Malaysia and China.
