Andrea D. Alford
Andrea D. Alford
is a fourth-year doctoral student at Lamar University in Deaf Studies and Deaf Education. She earned her Master of Science in Deaf Education at Texas Woman’s University and Educational Administration from Lamar University. She is currently the supervisor of a deaf education mainstream program in Texas. Formerly, a teacher at a public high school, she has a total of 19 years of experience teaching kindergarten through high school deaf and hard of hearing students. She has been awarded as the Katy Independent School District Education Foundation Inspiring Imagination Grant Recipient, 2020, ‘Houston KTRK-ABC News Spotlight Teacher,’ Teacher Appreciation Week, 2018, and ‘Spotlight Teacher of the Year,’ Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston, Texas, 2012. Her research interests include cognitive development of deaf and hard of hearing children, early language acquisition and assessments, and deaf education administration. Andrea, a deaf ASL user born to hearing parents, is married with three children.
