Brittany N. Anderson
, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Urban Education in Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education (MDSK) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Brittany is a former Texas elementary educator, who received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Baylor University, Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Texas, and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, Gifted and Creative Education. Her research focuses on pre-service and in-service teacher development related to the talent development and identification of minoritized youth. Dr. Anderson’s research also centers the lived experiences of gifted Black girls and women, with an emphasis on their academic and social-emotional needs. Her grant work focuses on university-school-community partnerships that situate STEM engagement through critical and culturally relevant experiential learning development with high-ability Black girls, their teachers, and families. Through this work, she was recently named a 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER fellow. For the past several years, Dr. Anderson has been involved in the professional learning of in-service teachers in urban schools, focused on anti-racist and culturally responsive teaching, STEM, and gifted education. Dr. Anderson was the 2017 recipient of National Association of Gifted Children (NAGC) Doctoral Award and NAGC’s Special Populations 2022 Early Career Award.
