Chong Eng Tan

Chong Eng Tan , an Associate Professor at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), has been a dedicated member of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology since 1999. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 2004, specializing in wireless networks and broadband access technology. With over 25 years of research experience, Dr. Tan has focused his research on connecting remote areas to the internet. Notably, he designed the pilot long-range wireless system in 2010 in Bario and played a pivotal role in establishing Telecentres in remote locations in Malaysia. Dr. Tan is a senior member of the IEEE and a graduate member of IEM, and he currently leads the 5G& Connectivity Keylab, contributing significantly to technology advancements in connectivity and rural ICT solutions. His notable research achievements include the development of the Virtual Telecentre concept and innovative solar power solutions for ICT systems.
