Dorothea Maria Bowyer

Dorothea Bowyer is a lecturer at Western Sydney University (WSU) School of Business, since 2004. Her research is threefold and focuses on a) infrastructure management and stakeholder accountability in the public sector b) gender equity in higher education, and c) graduates’ career readiness. Dorothea is the chair of the WSU Engaged Parent Network and a member of her School’s Equity and Diversity Working Party. A mother of three children, she actively seeks to advance the visibility of parenthood in the workplace. She was recipient and involved in Gender Equity Funded projects: “Returning to Work after Parental Leave: An Appreciative Inquiry” and “The Impact of Parenting on Careers”. The latter project explored and reviewed gender equality policies across the tertiary and corporate sectors. Dorothea has assisted the WSU Student Parent Union to be founded and has undertaken a project on exploring flexible childminding options in the Higher Education sector. She has extended her work to investigate gender equity policies for student-parents in Australia, academic-motherhood and the impact of career breaks on professional identity.
