Gopala Sasie Rekha

Gopala Sasie Rekha is a distinguished Lecturer in Criminology at the Faculty of Law, Crime & Justice, University of Winchester, and serves as a Subject External Examiner at the New College of the Humanities. With a rich academic history, she previously lectured in Malaysia and worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy, and Criminology, as well as the Department of Economics, Social, and Political Sciences at the University of Southampton. Additionally, she was a Research Assistant on two projects at the same university and a Guest Lecturer at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham. Dr. Rekha holds a Ph.D. in Sociology, Social Policy, and Criminology from the University of Southampton, an LLM from the National University of Malaysia, an MBA from the University of Southern Queensland, and an LLM from the Christian University of Indonesia. Her research primarily focuses on the experiences of sex trafficking victims and their families, particularly during the reintegration process. She employs field experiments in developing countries, analyzing migrant smuggling and anti-slavery law in various nations. Her methodologies are diverse, engaging with victims, their families, and NGO members. Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Rekha developed a profound interest in organized crime, specifically human trafficking, policing of transnational crime, comparative criminal justice and criminal law, human rights, and gender issues in Southeast Asia. Her multilingual abilities in English, Malay, and Indonesian, combined with her engaging speaking style, enhance her contributions to academia, public speaking, and conferences.
