Jamie M. Bencak

Jamie M. Bencak is a doctoral student at Lamar University in Deaf Studies and Deaf Education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Deaf Education at Illinois State University and her Master of Science in Deaf Education at Texas Woman’s University. She is currently a deaf education teacher at a public elementary school and has a total of 17 years experience teaching pre-kindergarten through high school deaf and hard of hearing students. She has been awarded as the recipient for Humble Independent School District Education Foundation grant in 2015 for technology use in the classroom. She was also recognized for exceptional service in education from the school district. Her research interests includes early literacy and language development of deaf and hard of hearing children, ASL-English bilingualism, and curriculum and instruction in deaf education. Jamie is a deaf ASL user who is married and has two young children. Some hobbies she enjoys in her spare time include arts and crafts, traveling, and camping.
