Joana Torres

Joana Torres earned her PhD in Criminology from the Faculty of Law at the University of Porto, where she led research funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology. Her research, titled "Political and Institutional Analysis of the Implementation of the Istanbul Convention in Portugal: Focusing on Intimate Partner Violence," delved into critical societal issues. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminology (2012) and a Master's degree in Psychology of Justice (2014) from the University Institute of Maia, along with another Bachelor's degree in Psychology (2016). Additionally, she holds a postgraduate degree in Human Rights from the University of Coimbra and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Public Health at the National School of Public Health. As an esteemed educator, Joana serves as a lecturer in both undergraduate and graduate programs in Criminology at the University of Maia and Fernando Pessoa University. Her expertise extends across various disciplines, including Victimology, Juvenile Delinquency, Forensic Evaluation Concepts, Public Opinion and Criminal Justice, and Criminology and Comparative Culture. Over the years, she has contributed significantly to numerous research centers and groups, collaborating with institutions such as CJS-FDUP, UICCC/ISMAI, and the Dating Violence Observatory.
