Joanne Leon

Joanne León is an Associate Professor & Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been practicing Social Work in the area of mental health and school social work since 1998. She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Central CT State University where she is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Social Work. She received her MSW from University of CT and her PhD. from Smith College. Dr. Leon’s research revolves around the following thematic strands: providing quality culturally sensitive mental health services to Latine children and families, effects of parental incarceration on children, microaggression, mental health in schools and supporting first-generation college students. Dr. Leon holds a small private practice where she provides a variety of treatment modalities (EMDR, CBT, Psychodynamic) to adolescents and adults. More importantly, Dr. Leon enjoys spending quality time with her family and long walks with her dog Jax.
