Kamakshi Maheshwari

Kamakshi Maheshwari was born in the family of historians and antiquarians, which fuelled her interest in the field of heritage, culture and tourism from the early stage of life. Understanding it as the focal point, she pursued her passion as profession. Currently, she is working as Asst. professor in Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Gwalior. Apart from having number of national and international research paper publications she has been part of number of tourism and hospitality course curriculum development too. She authored two books titled ‘Resurrecting Chambal: A Microscopic Study of Heritage Tourism’ in 2022 and ‘Cultural and Heritage Resources of India’ in 2020. She is associated as a Governing Council Member since 2009 to INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), a non-profit organisation aimed towards preservation and conservation of tangible and intangible heritage and historical monument. She is also holding the position of WICCI (Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce Industry) Rural Tourism Council president of Madhya Pradesh. Her passion and profession led her to associate in many prestigious projects of Government of India like development of Raghurajpur as the first UNESCO Heritage Tourism Village of India, development of Buddhist Tourist Train “MAHAPARINIRVANA”, developed a self-help group for women of weaker section, led the campaign of “SAY NO TO POLYTHENE” in Madhya Pradesh, conducted rural tourism survey of Pranpur village for Ministry of Tourism GoI, undertook a research and survey of Women Dacoit’s of Chambal region, coordinating the course content development of IITFC (Incredible India Tourist Facilitator) Heritage Advance Course. She is also the co-founder to ‘KALAKRITI CREATIONS’, nationwide artist guild working for preserving and safeguarding the vanishing and dying art forms of India. Her work has been awarded on local and national level both. She is recipient of JCI Outstanding Young Personality of India Award in 2021, LIMCA book of record holder award 2008, 2010, 2012 for her collection of Polybags.
