Clinically, over the past twelve years her work has entailed direct and indirect practice within clinical and community health systems. Notably, in July 2020, she co-founded a consulting practice in response to the racial and civil unrest related the increasingly publicized murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. As she processed these specific events (and the many others) and the impact of racial injustice with and on students, she and her colleague (co-founder) knew they had to act. Jointly, they utilized their strengths as practitioners and educators and concentrated on community partners, specifically mental health authorities. The practice focuses on assisting organizations in implementing and advancing Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belong initiatives and practices. In this capacity, they assess organizations through a multi-level, integrated approach and analyze organizational data, providing consultation on policy development and revisions. Furthermore, as identified through various meetings and subsequent survey analyses, employee and board informed, training is tailored to the needs and goals of the organization. Examples include Unconscious Bias Training, Micro Aggressions, and We Belong: Creating an Inclusive Workplace. Additionally, Katherine is actively involved with new grant initiatives, serving as Project Director/Principal Investigator on a CT Health Horizons Grant for innovative programing to enhance and diversify the social work workforce it the state of Connecticut.
