Lara J. Handsfield
Lara Handsfiel
d is a Professor of Bilingual-Bicultural Education and Elementary Literacy Education in the School of Teaching and Learning at Illinois State University, where she teaches literacy methods courses for undergraduate teacher candidates and graduate courses in literacy and curriculum theory. Her research critically examines comprehension instruction in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms, digital literacies, and how teachers and students negotiate multiple political and pedagogical demands. Her work has appeared in several academic journals, including the Reading Teacher, Reading Research Quarterly, the Journal of Literacy Research, and Language Arts. She is the author of Literacy Theory as Practice: Connecting Theory and Instruction in K-12 Classrooms (2016).
