Sandra G. Edwards

Sandra G. Edwards currently serves as the superintendent of the Tennessee Schools for the Deaf. She has served in the field of deaf education for 35 years in a variety of roles including teacher, principal, superintendent, and as an Assistant Professor training teachers of the deaf. Dr. Edwards served the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools for the Deaf (CEASD) as President Elect and President from 2014-2018. Dr. Edwards obtained a doctorate degree in Deaf Education and Deaf Studies in 2012 from Lamar University, a master’s degree in School Leadership in 2005 from Jackson State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education in 1987 from the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Edwards’ research passion is literacy and is documented in her dissertation, Considering The Sociolinguistic Impact Of Instability Of Educational Philosophy On Reaching Achievement Of Students Who Are Deaf And Hard Of Hearing. Many years of teaching deaf students to read is the basis of her passion for bilingual educational programming.
