Sean Hickey

Sean Hickey is the Deputy Director and Lead Curriculum Developer for the assessment program at The Ohio State University's Center on Education and Training for Employment (CETE). As part of his role, he facilitates item-writing workshops for statewide end-of-course tests and industry credentialing exams and develops eLearning materials for teachers and subject-matter experts. Hickey is also a PhD candidate in learning technologies, studying how instructional designers apply learning theories in their work and how they approach their own professional development. An award-winning instructional designer, Hickey has more than 20 years of experience in curriculum development. Some of his past projects include writing the content and creating interactive elements for middle-school science eBooks, developing workshop programs for a nationally recognized science center, and partnering with Apple on the first generation of interactive iPad textbooks. Hickey has presented at several conferences related to learning technologies or corporate/organizational learning and development. Recently, he was invited to be a featured presenter at two Learning Guild online conferences. He has also spoken at the Future of Educational Technology Conference, the Ohio Educational Technology Conference, and the Association of Science and Technology Centers annual conference, on topics such as assessment, gamification, using AI tools in learning and development, and inquiry education in both formal and informal learning settings.
