Thatiane Mendes Mitsunaga

Thatiane Mitsunaga is an Animal Scientist with Undergraduation degree in Animal Science at University of São Paulo State (UNESP), in Botucatu, São Paulo. During this period, she experienced activities in poultry, swine and dairy production, beef cattle, among others, included in several mandatory activities within the undergraduation program. Her first contact with research was with a project evaluating the use of stable isotopes in animal production. Almost at the end of undergraduation, she applied to a Brazilian program to study abroad in University College Dublin, Ireland, where she improved important tehchniques in scientific reading and writing, as well as in animal production. To conclude undergraduation, she performed her internship in a dairy farm located inside The Animal Science Institute of Nova Odessa, São Paulo, the same place she later started a master’s degree in Sustainable Animal Production. In this Institute she developed a master’s research project evaluating the use of essential oils from therapeutical plants in dairy cows and its effects on subclinical mastitis and milk quality. At the present time, she is a PhD student in Animal Science and Pastures at Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ), from University of São Paulo (USP), with research thesis including the study of incidence and distribution of clinical mastitis causing pathogens in dairy farms and the economic impact of on-farm microbiological culture as a diagnosis tool.
