Rethinking Design Through (Re)Investigating Participatory Design
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the discursive and dialectic relationship that combines the notion of participation, including its philosophical, political, social, and pragmatic dimensions, from one side, and the contemporary notion of architectural design, on the other side, in order to illustrate participatory design as a critical and comprehensive design methodology in contemporary architectural theory and practice. This study focuses on explaining the new architectural design manifestation, under the influence of participation in architecture, in four different complimentary perspectives of design politics, design theory, professional design practice, and pedagogical design practice.
