Abstract
One challenge for the teacher of a course on spirituality is to create a learning environment where perception and action are grounded in the mutual search for meaning in the non-physical, yet nonetheless real, world of experience, so that students can test themselves and their new knowledge in the contexts of their own lived experiences. Three modes of student evaluation are proposed: student journaling, leading and participating in weekly class discussions, and an open-book final examination. Examples of anonymous student final examination answers are given, demonstrating that undergraduate students can be quite inciteful in demonstrating what they have learned, and how they have applied their learning to their own lived experiences.
